Plenary Session

The spread of conspiracy theories and harmful misinformation – about vaccines, diets, alternative therapies, and, yes, dental care – is a defining characteristic of our time. It has led to deaths, financial loss, increased stigma, health policy challenges, and added to the chaotic information environment. We must counter this “infodemic” with evidence-based communication strategies. Debunking does works, if done well! In this presentation Caulfield will look at what the science says about where misinformation is coming from (social media, celebrities, ideological driven agendas) and what individuals and organizations can do fight back.
